There’s always a little tension in my body and my mind. My shoulder is tight or I can’t turn my head to the left or there’s a thought buried deep in my brain that I can’t quite reach but know is a problem. Always an itch I can’t scratch.

Yesterday, at my new job at the pilates studio, I had to consciously remind myself, “you’re not walking around a restaurant right now.” And it was only then that I grinned and had a moment of appreciation. Wow. You’ve done it.

It’s so strange to long for something, get it and then long for something else, completely forgoing the chance to bask in what you’ve achieved.

I’m not necessarily an envy scroller. I don’t spend hours on Instagram wondering why can’t that be me. But I do really gobble up posts from people loving their lives, expressing their gratitude for putting in some work, taking some risks and landing in their version of heaven. They’re making a cup of tea or snuggling under a blanket or sitting on a beach or loading their dishwasher. And they’re basking. Appreciating everything.

But…like…what does the basking ACTUALLY feel like? You know what I mean? It’s not like life stops. Goal reached. Pause. We’re always still waking up, brushing our teeth, making breakfast, taking dumps, doing laundry, living our lives, doing all the things. AND, we’re probably also onto the next dream. So, how do we bask in what we’ve accomplished while still wanting to achieve more?
