Not That Serious
Because I had a great time reading about shoes today and realized I'm trying to be too deep.
Today I sat in bed with my coffee and read a Substack article about a girl’s mission to find her perfect wedding shoe. That was it. No epiphany, she just found a shoe she loves and wrote about it. I didn’t even skim this article, I read every word and I enjoyed it and I thought, why am I waiting for some deep inspiration to write on my Substack? Can’t I just keep it light and sprinkle in a thought provoking idea here and there? And also, can I just record another damn podcast already?? It. Is. Happening. I have an amazing intro song (thank you, Mitch!!) ready and burning to be used, it’s truly just aligning schedules to get the dang thing recorded. I WILL break podcast the seal and I’m saying this mostly for my own benefit and inspiration.
Anyway, because I’ve gotten myself so mired down in having something important to say, I’ve decided to jump back in with a list of fun things I did last month. Nothing serious, here’s where I’ve been.
Alan and I are now AMC Stubs A-Listers. No decision has ever made me feel more adult than this one. We go to the movies at least once a week and the really nice, lay-down, heated seats movie theater that has a bar cost $32 for two tickets, the Stubs membership is $25 a month and you get THREE FREE movies a week. I can barely handle how fiscally wise this decision has been. I feel like a real grown up.
I am becoming a real live Aunt for the first time in October! My brother and sister-in-law announced their pregnancy a few weeks ago and we are so excited to welcome a fifth Jethro to the world this Fall. This is the first Felton grandbaby of mine and Jay’s generation so it is a very big deal and we are all beside ourselves with joy.
I am getting a bike. Atlanta is having a real-live drawn out Spring where it rains and gets chilly one day and then gets warm and breezy the next. It is glorious and I want to be outside all the time but I get very bored with walking as I do it all the time at work and I am dying to have the wind in my hair as I breeze down the Beltline on my beach cruiser.
We are going to New York City for my 40th birthday. Booked the tickets this week and I simply, absolutely, cannot wait. Delta told me the trip is 152 days away which sounds like forever but, duh, it’ll be here before we know it. I can’t wait to spend a week in the coolest city, seeing my best friends and eating EVERYTHING.
A week or so ago, I waited on a table of six octo- and nonagenarians. These people have a dining club that has met three times a year for the past 67 years! It started in the 50s when the two founding members decided they wanted to become “gourmets” and started learning to cook. The club began as a group of 12 but has dwindled to half that due to “death and divorce” as one of the members told me. It made me think that my own gourmet group, Bite Club, might have some real legs, I couldn’t help but picture myself as a 95 year old lady eating tiramisu, drinking an espresso martini and reminiscing about the old days.
Okay, that’s it from me for today. I’m hoping that you are doing well and enjoying good weather and good fortune wherever you are and if you are not, I am sending you a very warm thought hug and praying for brighter days ahead. I’ll be here more regularly now as I’ve found that as the seasons begin to change, especially as the warmer ones begin to arrive, I’m more inspired and routine oriented.
Talk to you soon my friends.
