Every year there are at least two things on which we can all agree, 1. How fast it flew by and 2. How is it March already?
It happens every single year and yet, every single year, the Bradford pear trees start to bloom, we all remark on what they smell like… we all know what they smell like… we pop a Zyrtec and then suddenly, it’s August. So, in the spirit of presence, I would like to make a list of spring and summer occurrences that I am really looking forward to.
Since I already started a numbered list, we will now switch to letters:
A) The Turning Over of the Wardrobe. Having lived in California for eight years prior to my move back to Georgia, there wasn’t ever a need to switch from a summer to a winter wardrobe. Every night got chilly regardless of the time of year so all my clothes remained in the same place. Now, all I can think about is vacuum sealing my puffy coat, washing my sweaters and neatly folding them for storage. Lol. Yeah right. I never wash my sweaters.
B) Under-Boob Sweat. Last Summer I got really into wearing tank tops and going braless. I’m highly anticipating the continuation of this practice and that’s all I have to say about that.
C) Getting Drunk. There’s more daylight, more outside time, more ice for my rosé. Getting drunk when it’s warm out is truly one of my favorite pastimes. (So is getting drunk when it’s cold out but... yeah.)
D) The 6pm Fifteen Minute Downpour. Everyone romanticizes rain, I’m no different.
E) Imagining Myself as Any Southern Character Dabbing Sweat from Her Brow. Romanticizing sweaty heat when it is currently a breezy 72 degrees out is basically like romanticizing running and enjoying it but the three summers I have spent back in Georgia have been the most enjoyable of my life. Call me a Tennessee Williams heroine but “I do declare”, there’s something about the communal acceptance of dripping sweat all the time that is sexy as hell. Refer to bullet point B.
F) Afternoon Naps. Like getting drunk, this is an activity I engage in regardless of the season, but napping in spring and summer, when the days are longer and you can fall asleep knowing the sun will still be up when you wake is truly glorious.
G) The Farmer’s Market. Strawberries, peaches, tomatoes. Tomato Sandwiches. Flowers. Tomato Sandwiches. Peaches. Tomato Sandwiches.
This list could obviously go on but I’m currently watching my dog, Scraps, chase a bumblebee around the deck (you heard that right, the dog is actually chasing a bumblebee) and I am dying to go on a walk. Seasons are one of the biggest bonuses of living in Georgia and as the trees begin to bloom again, so do we all ( lol, barf). I’m sure we’ve got one more cold snap to endure but I read recently that adding ice to your rosé is considered chic in Provence and daylight savings is a week away so I’m considering myself sprung.
Get your taxes done.
I’m sending you love.
Cheers.
Wonderful.
