You may remember that in January of this year I threw out my back putting on pants. (I discovered Substack while I was immobile.) Ever since my “injury,” I’ve had persistent lower back pain. The kind irritated by sitting…or standing… basically I am never comfortable. It’s annoying. Anyway, at the beginning of a Pilates class last month, my teacher recommended I roll my back out on this tennis ball sized hard cork ball and, oh my god, it was an instant release. So we ordered a foam roller for the house. Friends, wow. When I watched a YouTube video to make sure I was doing it right and learned it shouldn’t feel excruciating, my life was changed. I’ve been rolling pretty much every night and I swear, it has helped so much. I also got this little spiky ball that I roll out my hands and feet on, honestly I thought it was gonna be like the ball at Pilates, it’s a lot smaller but alas, another treat. Foam rolling is a very good thing. Here’s the video I watched to make sure I wasn’t gonna hurt myself worse.
I’ve been back and forth on how often to post Good Things, weekly or bi-weekly. I was gonna wait to share this so you don’t get sick of me but I’m laying here in bed feeling not amazing (not my back just some kinda ick) and I figured, hell, someone might be staring across the room at their foam roller right now just waiting for a reason to go use it. Do it (but watch that video so you do it right). See you soon and have a great weekend. Stay loose.
