This is a cooking video:
Hello again my lovely reader turned viewer. The making of this video nearly killed me. First of all, as you’ll hear/read, I filmed it 30 minutes after a three hour nap and on the day of daylight savings. In addition to that lunacy, a guest asked me during service the night before if I was pregnant. I very much AM NOT… Needless to say, my headspace wassssss somethin’.
The fact that my computer nearly crashed during the editing process is really what sent me over the edge. Every transition or title I added had me deleting something else from my hard drive… (see: every Microsoft app I had…) Anyway, it wraps up quickly (really, REALLY quickly) but gives you a glimpse at one of the finest, most decadent, simplest cakes of all time, Molly Wizenberg’s, The Winning Hearts and Minds Cake.
I have been a HUGE fan of Molly’s since the days of Orangette, one of the first and finest food blogs to ever exist. I originally made this cake sometime in the early aughts to celebrate the engagement of my friends Kerry and Tibi. A year later, I accepted the honor of making 15 more for their beautiful wedding in Venice, Italy. Picture, me, my mother and my best friend, Evan, in a tiny Italian kitchen baking the best versions of this cake that’ve ever been. Nothing beats European eggs and chocolate. Such a special memory.
This cake has such a huge and fond space in my heart and I hope you will laugh at and enjoy this video. Please do yourself a favor and read, A Homemade Life, as well as all of Molly’s memoirs and check out her Substack, I’ve Got A Feeling.
As always, thank you so much for being here. Have a wonderful weekend.
Cheers!!!
